The Story Behind the Musician

This image (left) was taken in 2013, one term after I started studying GCSE music. Why did I study Music? Because I thought it would be an easy subject for me to do! Was it? Of course not, but during my time of doing GCSE, I discovered something more than an interest for music, I discovered a passion. Over my time in GCSE, I covered motown, Jazz, Rock 'N Roll, and learned to play some amazing instruments (as you can see I learned to play guitar) including Piano and Trumpet

Because of GCSE, I decided to do BTEC Level 3 Music, and I can tell you that it was the best choice of my life yet. I started the course with a cover of 'Fairytale of New York', 'Fix You' and even starting up a Staff choir (Which was interesting to say the least). Over the four years of being able to do music in school, I feel I have definitely come a long way, as at the start, I had no idea how to play the piano and definitely had no idea that I would be able to play the saxophone! And if I was to travel back in time to four years ago and give myself any advice, I would say "never give up, it may be hard at first but you have a talent for it".
In April of 2017, I asked to do a stage show at my church in June after finishing my first year at university. Weeks went by and the set changed all the time until the final week. I titled the show 'Sam Hanna: Teaching New Dogs Old Tricks' and it was performed on the 4th June. With Harry Eastwood as my accompanying pianist, the show was a major success, shining a glimmer of hope that this wasn't just a one off.
In September 2017, it was decided that we were to 'Return to the scene of the crime' as it were and we put a new show together for performance in January. Although it got a good response, we we needing time together for the shows to work, so we decided that we would do one more, then call it quits (FOR NOW!), and so in April, we performed 'One More Thing'.
Sam Hanna is returning again with his solo show The Man, The Myth, The Legend in July
